Listened to this yesterday (Dark Star twice) as I was pondering a post myself.
Dave Franks master class really drove home some musical notions that had been floating around my mind (between the ears) since all the music theory I studied in high school. Things I kind of knew, and could feel and hear (and play) but couldn’t quite explain if pressed. Truly enhanced my listening and playing.
The ability of a great musician to blaze off into improvised bliss is a wonder to behold, and to experience an entire combo (our boys) achieve such scope together, as with this awesome Dark Star, is just really far out!
